Top seeds into second round in Daegu

 
Daegu, Korea, July 14, 2017 – Top seeds Miki Ishii and Megumi Murakami led the way into the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Daegu 1-star tournament second round when they defeated Kim Ka-Yeon and Kim Hyunji on Friday. 

The Japanese pair didn’t hang around and beat the Koreans 2-0 (21-10, 21-9) in 28 minutes on a day that was interrupted by thunderstorms at the Suseong Lake venue. 


Fourteenth seeds Lisa Arnholdt and Leonie Welsch of Germany caused the biggest upset of the day when they eliminated third seeds Victoria Palmer and Jessica Grimson from England 2-0 (21-15, 21-18). 

Katerina Valkova and Diana Zolnercikova enjoyed a similar result. The 13-ranked Czech duo beat Korea’s fourth seeds Lee Jinhwa and Yoon Hye-Suk 2-0 (21-11, 21-11). 

There were also victories for New Zealand’s Julia Tilley and Alice Bain, and Canada’s Amanda Harnett and Kelsey Veltman.

The Kiwis beat Israel’s Yael Yellin and Sofia Starikov 2-0 (21-18, 21-16), while the wildcard Canadians defeated Thailand’s Rumpaipruet Numwong and Khanittha Hongpak 2-0 (21-18, 21-19).
