Gerson and Zandbergen triumph in Geneva

 
Lausanne, Switzerland, May 14, 2017 – Mirco Gerson and Michiel Zandbergen gave Swiss fans plenty to cheer on Sunday when they won gold at the Geneva Swiss Tour event. 

The Swiss pair beat German veterans Kay Matysik and Marcus Popp 2-0 (21-14, 21-19), but the German fans in the crowd were able to cheer Sandra Ittlinger and Teresa Mersmann’s success after they defeated Natalia Dubovcova and Andrea Strbova 2-1 (16-21, 21-18, 15-9). 

Mirco Gerson has twice won bronze on the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour, while Matysik won bronze at the Mazury 2013, FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships. 

Sebastian Chevallier is another Swiss player who has enjoyed success on the World Tour and the 29-year-old has another medal to add to his collection after he and Alexei Strasser won bronze with a 2-0 (21-19, 24-22) defeat of Gabriel Kissling and Mats Kovatsch. 


Taryn Sciarini and Muriel Graessli ensured that there was one Swiss team on the women’s podium when they defeated Ines Egger and Selina Marolf 2-0 (21-12, 21-14).
