Fiji excited to welcome first World Tour event

Pacific Harbour, Fiji, December 13, 2016 - Fiji is preparing for its first-ever FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour event, which will take place from January 12 to 14 at Pacific Harbour.

“We are very excited and happy that we will host an event here in Fiji,” Fiji Volleyball Federation President Elesi Keterdromo said. “The people have gone through the learning experience in the regional and international events. They are also better trained. We will also try to bring in people or companies to promote this event.”

The three-day double-gender tournament in Fiji is the first event in the 2017 FIVB Beach Volleyball calendar, introducing the new five-star structure that provides a platform and formation of events for a growing number of hosting countries, while providing commercial flexibility and opportunities.

"Our people have been undergoing training and education and we are planning for another awareness and education programme to take place before the event," Keterdromo added. "There are also plans to have a Fiji Beach Open prior to the event. It is a very exciting time since we have been given an approval from the international body to host the event."

The 2017 FIVB Beach Volleyball calendar features single-gender events in Kish Island and Espinho (men) and in Sydney, Daegu, Ulsan and Monaco (women). The remaining events, including the Fiji event, will be double-gender.

A busy 2017 calendar will start in Fiji and will conclude in China in October.
