Rome removed from 2017 beach volleyball calendar

 
Lausanne, Switzerland, March 17, 2017 – Scheduled to take place in June, the 2017 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour event in Rome, Italy has been cancelled following financial difficulties faced by the organisers in the implementation of the event.

The FIVB’s 2017 beach volleyball calendar includes a total of 24 events in 18 countries. After events in Fort Lauderdale, USA and Kish Island, Iran in February and Shepparton, Australia from March 4 to 5, the eyes of the beach volleyball world now turn to Sydney’s Manly Beach from March 17 to 19.

Highlights of this year’s World Tour schedule include three Swatch Major Series events in Fort Lauderdale (USA), Porec (Croatia) and Gstaad (Switzerland), and four-star events in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), Lucerne (Switzerland) and Olsztyn (Poland).

The FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships in Vienna, Austria from July 28 to August 6 and the Swatch Beach Volleyball FIVB World Tour Finals in Hamburg from August 22 to 27 will provide the grand finale to this year’s FIVB beach volleyball programme.



The Italian Volleyball Federation is committed to staging top-flight beach volleyball events in 2019 and 2020. Italy and Bulgaria will also host the FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship in 2018.
