Beattie/Coutts break new ground for Scotland

Lausanne, Switzerland, April 11, 2017 – Scotland women’s beach volleyball pair Lynne Beattie and Melissa Coutts balance full-time careers with a busy training schedule in a bid to make a mark at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in Australia from April 4 to 15, 2018.

Scotland’s association with beach volleyball may be atypical, but the country has a long coastline and stunning beaches like Portobello, Edinburgh, where Beattie and Coutts train hard in all weather as they prepare for events on the international beach volleyball calendar.

Beach volleyball will feature on the programme of the Commonwealth Games for the first time in 2018, and Beattie/Coutts have been working tirelessly to turn their dream of making history for Scottish women’s sport into a reality.

The process includes competing in FIVB and CEV beach volleyball events and the duo made history at Manly Beach, Sydney, in March earlier this year where they recorded Scotland’s first ever win on the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour against local team Sarah Battaglene and Stefanie Weiler 2-1 (20-22, 21-16, 15-9).

Beattie and Coutts will next play at the Langkawi World Tour event on Saturday and Sunday, April 15 and 16. Visit the event website this weekend to keep track of their results.
