Kish Island, Iran, February 16, 2017 – Qatar’s Julio Cesar Do Nascimento Junior/Cherif Younousse and Australia’s Cole Durant/Zachery Schubert both earned victories on Thursday, keeping pace with their European rivals in the chase for gold at the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Kish Island 3-Star 2017.
The two Asian teams will face a daunting task of coming up with victories in the Round of 16, which is dominated by 14 European pairs led by Piotr Kantor/Bartosz Losiak of Poland and Markus Bockermann/Lars Fluggen of Germany, who remain the top favourites in the competition.
Germany and Russia lead with three teams each, then France and Switzerland have two teams each, and Austria, Poland, Belgium and Ukraine have one team each fielded in the Round of 16.
The first match on Friday will start at 09.00 local time, while the quarterfinal matches are scheduled to start at 12.20.
