Nanjing unveils venue plan for U21 World Championships and World Tour

Nanjing, China, April 19, 2017 – The venue for the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour event and the FIVB Beach Volleyball U21 World Championships in Tangshan Jiangning, Nanjing promises a fine setting for the competitions scheduled to take place in June and July this year.

Tangshan, “soup mountain” in Chinese, is located in the Jiangning District of Nanjing, the capital city of the Jiangsu province. It is famous for its hot springs, which were bestowed the title of “Sacred Spring” by the Emperor in the Southern Dynasties (420-589 A.D.).

Nanjing will welcome the World Tour this year from June 16 to 18, then the U21 World Championships from July 11 to 16.

FIVB beach volleyball department director Cao Yu, together with representatives of the China Volleyball Association, Jiangsu Sports Administration, Jiangning Sports Bureau, Tangshang Hot Spring Resort Administrative Committee, and co-promoters Jiangsu Foutask and All Win Fun Sports made an inspection of the venue.

“The venue planning is great,” said Cao Yu commending the efforts of promoter Jiangsu Foutask, who own the right to use the land for 30 years. “I suggest to make a long-term plan for 8-10 years for this venue, on top of hosting beach volleyball events.”

“The location of the site is very good,” FIVB Beach Volleyball Commission member and China Volleyball Association representative Liu Bing said. “It has a wonderful landscape and a very convenient transportation system, which has not been fully utilised. This is a perfect opportunity to promote the area and the events.”

Nanjing will have a very busy 2017 calendar with the two beach volleyball events and also the FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix Group 1 Finals at the Nanjing Olympic Sports Centre from August 2 to 6.
