Juliana and Carol Horta crowned queens of Monaco

 
Lausanne, Switzerland, June 18, 2017 – Juliana Felisberta and Carol Horta won their first tournament since they teamed up at the start of the year when they won gold at the Monaco 1-Star tournament on Sunday. 

The Brazilian pair defeated Germany’s Kim Behrens and Anni Schumacher 2-1 (21-16, 15-21, 15-13) to become the first team to win an FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour tournament in the principality. 

His Royal Highness Prince Albert II attended the gold and bronze medal matches and assisted at the awarding ceremony.


Juliana, who won the 2011 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships with Larissa Franca in 2011, only teamed up with Carol Horta at the beginning of 2017, since when their best result has been a quarterfinal finish at the Rio de Janeiro 4-Star event. 

For Schumacher and Behrens, it is their second World Tour medals of 2017 having previously won silver at the Shepparton 1-Star event in Australia. 



Greece’s Panagiota Karagkouni and Konstantina Tsopoulou beat New Zealand’s Shauna Polley and Kelsie 2-1 (21 - 15 16 - 21 15 - 9) to win bronze, their first World Tour medal. 

Brazil, Germany, Denmark (with 2 teams), Scotland, France, Greece, Israel, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Czech Republic, Serbia, Switzerland and the USA all sent teams to the tournament that has a winner’s purse of $10,000.
