Favourites lead the way at Espinho Open

 
Lausanne, Switzerland, July 28, 2017 – Anders Bernsten Mol and Mathias Berntsen, top seeds at the Espinho 2-star event, advanced to the quarterfinals on the opening day of the tournament at Praia da Baia on Friday. 


The Norwegian duo beat the USA’s Trevor Crabb and James Avery Drost 2-0 (21-16, 21-14), who had earlier defeated Portugal’s Januario Alvar and Sebastiao Alves 2-0 (21-18, 27-25).


Finland’s Pekka Piippo and Jyrki Numinrm will face the Norwegians in the quarterfinals after they defeated Portugal’s Roberto Reis and Fabricio Silva 2-1 (21-15, 17-21, 15-12). Earlier in the day they beat another Portuguese side, Jose Neto and Goncalo Santos.

George Wanderley and Vitor Felipe beat another Portuguese side. The Brazilians beat Jose Pedro Monteiro and Fabricio Barros 2-0 (21-16, 21-15). They will now face Canada’s Grant O'Gorman and Michael Plantinga.

The other six top seeded teams will begin their campaign on Saturday and by the end of the day the four teams that will play in the semifinals and medal matches on Sunday will be known.
