Agatha Bednarczuk and Eduarda "Duda" Lisboa finished as the top team in Pool D as the Brazilians defeated Lauren Fendrick and April Ross of the United States here Thursday at the US$800,000 SWATCH FIVB World Tour Finals.
Seeded fourth in the event, Agatha and Dud scored a 2-0 (21-14, 21-17) win in 34 minutes over the fifth-seeded Americans in the first-ever FIVB World Tour meeting between the two teams.
The Brazilian opened play Wednesday by defeating 12th-seeded Nina Betschart and Tanja Hüberli of Switzerland 2-0 (21-15, 21-17) in 35 minutes. Fendrick and Ross defeated the Swiss pair 2-0 (21-16, 21-16) in 33 minutes Thursday morning.
All three teams in Pool D advance to Friday's elimination round where Agatha and Duda have earned a "bye" into the quarter-finals for a guaranteed fifth-place finish in the event.
