Borger teams up with indoor champ Kozuch for 2017

Frankfurt, Germany, October 6, 2017 - A silver medallist with Britta Büthe at the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships Mazury 2013, Karla Borger has teamed up with indoor player Margareta Kozuch for 2017. Capped 336 times with the German national volleyball team, Kozuch turns to the beach and a new phase in her career.

Karla Borger and Britta Büthe lost to Larissa Franca and Talita Antunes of Brazil in the Round of 16 at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games

"I had a few interesting offers to team up with other players, but my focus was always on playing with 'Maggie'," said Borger, who finished ninth at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games with former partner Büthe.

"'Maggie' brings a lot of experience from her indoor successes in Germany and abroad. Her height [1.88m] and outstanding technical and athletic skills are sure to help her adapt quickly to the sand. She has all the qualities of a good beach player."

Kozuch's indoor career features silver medals at the 2011 and 2013 editions of the European Championships with Germany as well as 2016 European Champions League gold with Italian club Pomi Casalmaggiore. She also received a Most Spectacular Player award at the 2016 European Volleyball Gala in Rome.

Kozuch said: "I am looking forward to the opportunity Karla has offered me. With her I have an incredibly strong and experienced player at my side, which was crucial to my decision to take on this new challenge. Now I know that it is the right step for a new phase of my life and I thank Karla very much for the chance to try something new. I cannot wait for the first match we play together and to feel sand between my toes."
