Heidrich & Vergé-Dépre upset top-seeded Germans

 
Hamburg, Germany, August 23, 2017 - Switzerland's Joana Heidrich and Anouk Vergé-Dépré posted a seed-break-through win here Wednesday evening as the ninth-seeded Swiss pair defeated top-seeded Chantal Laboureur and Julia Sude of Germany in two sets at the US$800,000 SWATCH FIVB World Tour Finals.

Competing in Pool A, Heidrich and Vergé-Dépré scored a 2-0 (21-15, 20-16) win in 32 minutes over Laboureur and Sude.  It was the second FIVB World Tour meeting between the two teams as Laboureur and Sude posted a three-set semi-final win over Heidrich and Vergé-Dépré at the Gstaad Major in Switzerland.

Both teams end group action Thursday at Rothenbaum Stadium against eighth-seeded Kristyna Kolocova/Michala Kvapilova of Czech Republic.  Heidrich and Vergé-Dépre play the Czech pair at 12 p.m. on a Rothenbaum Stadium side court with Kolocova and Kvapilova challenging Laboureur and Sude on the center court at 6 p.m.
