Kish Island is regarded as the pearl of the Gulf and welcomes over a million visitors each year. The island is a free economic zone, which operates as a tourism and trading hub for the country.
The climate is favourable for the world-class beach volleyball action that the World Tour has to offer. The island also offers a scenic backdrop, making it an ideal venue for family recreation.
The historical attractions in Kish Island include the ancient city of Harireh, the underground city of Kariz, the Greek Ship, the Coral Coast Tourist Park and the Great Recreational Pier – all welcoming an average of 130,000 visitors per month.
The Kish Island coastline offers many facilities for swimming, scuba diving, jet skiing and water skiing, as well as other recreational activities like horse riding, cycling, karting and buggy racing.
The venue for the World Tour, the Kish Marine Recreational and Sports Complex has hosted numerous beach volleyball events, including three editions of the AVC beach volleyball tour.
The sports complex is located at the men’s beach area of the island and was rebuilt for the FIVB World Tour. The venue now has four courts, including the main competition court that can accommodate 1,500 spectators. These major changes make it one of the most important beach volleyball hubs in Asia and the world.
