Social Media Review: Sunday's a fun day as Rio crowns its champions

 
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, May 21, 2017 - Sunday was finals day at the Rio Open, with medals to be handed out and Brazilian fans hoping to a golden day in Olympic Park.

The Rio 4-Star event is the latest stop on the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour, and the stage was set for a big day on Sunday. 




It was cloudy, but there was no rain was in sight.




Fans were arriving at Olympic Park, ready for a big day of beach volleyball.



While the adults were concerned with medals, the kids at the Volleyball Your Way event were having a great time in the sand.



Earlier, Laura Ludwig, Kira Walkenhorst and Paolo Nicolai got to see their names on the medal wall at Olympic Park.



The brackets were ready for Sunday…who would win?



Look who was at Center Court for the final day! The legendary Emanuel Rego! 



First match up was for women’s bronze, and it was about to begin.



It was Barbora Hermannová and Marketa Slukova of the Czech Republic who won!



The men’s bronze medal match was next on Center Court.



It was a tough 3 sets, but Italy’s Paolo Nicolai & Daniele Lupo were back on the podium after defeating the USA for bronze!



A great run in Rio for Casey Patterson and Theo Brunner ends in a 4th-place finish.



The kids who were a part of the Volleyball Your Way events got prime spots in center court, and they were having fun!



The women’s gold medal match was next…could the home favorites Agatha and Duda defeat Canada’s Sarah Pavan and Melissa Humana-Paredes?



Both gold medal matches in Rio were shown live on FIVB YouTube!



Agatha and Duda were ready for the final. Nice graphic!



It was a tough three sets, but in the end Agatha and Duda won the tiebreak 15-13 to claim gold!



Sarah Pavan & Melissa Humana-Paredes were proud of their silver finish in Rio.



After the match, Agatha was more than willing to spend time with her fans.



The men’s final than began, and the first set was extremely tight.



But just like back in August at Copacabana, Alison and Bruno Schmidt win to claim gold in Rio!



It was a great run to silver for 2016’s Rio Grand Slam champions, Poland’s Piotr Kantor & Bartosz Losiak.



Then came podium time, and the women’s medalists were celebrating!



The men’s medalists look relaxed before heading to the podium.



The champs looked very pleased with their new golds.



Everyone on the podium…all the Rio Open medalists!



All was now quiet in Center Court, while work was wrapping up in the media room. Thank you, Rio! See you at the next stop on the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour in Moscow!
