Purpose built venue ready to kick off Silk Road Tour

 
 Jiangning, Nanjing, China, June 15, 2017 – The opening press conference was held at Nanjing Tangshan Easpring Resort for the 2017 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Silk Road Tangshan Open, set for June 16 to 18 at the newly built Tangshan Sand Park.

Vice Director of the Beach Volleyball Department of the Chinese Volleyball Association (CVA) Xiang Qian, Vice Director of Jiangsu Sports Competition Administrative Center Hu Weiquan and FIVB Technical Delegate Blair Harrison from Australia attended the press conference to mark the opening of the first event on the Silk Road Series.


After Hu introduced the Tangshan Open, Harrison welcomed the participating athletes to the new event and extended his thanks to the Organizing Committee.

“This FIVB World Tour is a major event on the FIVB world calendar and brings together some of the best teams from throughout the world. The top seeded teams all come from strong beach volleyball countries with a long beach volleyball history. The teams will not only compete for the highly sort after title of FIVB World Tour Silk Road Tangshan Open champion, but this competition will also give valuable points for their world ranking,” Harrison said.

As the first event on the Silk Road Series, FIVB World Tour Silk Road Tangshan Open includes 24 teams from 13 different countries competing for the USD 50,000 prize money. The second event on the Silk Road Tour, will be women’s FIVB Nantong 2-Star event from June 23 – 25.


Nanjing city is one of the four great ancient capitals of China, the first group of famous Chinese historical and cultural cities. Tangshan District is regarded as one of the four major hot-spring resorts in China. Following the successful Nanjing Youth Olympic Games in 2014, Nanjing is delighted to once again become the host of this international beach volleyball event.

Tangshan Sand Park, a newly built venue for this Tangshan Open, is a first level international sand sports park in China. It is made up of one center court, three side courts, two training courts and one carnival area to present a great beach volleyball experience for players and spectators alike.
