Eight countries chasing Moscow medals

 
Moscow, Russia, June 3, 2017 - Eight countries will be chasing Beach Volleyball podium successes at the US$150,000 FIVB World Tour stop in the Russia capital with 16 teams still in contention entering quarter- and semi-final action here Saturday at the Vodny Stadium Beach Sports Centre.


With the medal matches to be played Sunday where the winning teams will share the $10,000 first-place prizes per gender, five countries have multi pairs still competing led by Brazil with four, Germany three, and Poland, Russia and the United States with two each.  Australia, Latvia and Spain each have one duo still playing in the international event..

Brazil and Germany each have three teams still competing in the women’s “elite eight” along with pairs from Australia and the United States.  Host Russia and Poland advanced two tandems each to the men’s quarter-finals along with duos from Brazil, Latvia, Spain and the United States.

Here is the quarter-final schedule with the women’s semi-finals being played at 20:00 and 21:00, and the men’s at 19:00 and 22:00.

15:00 - Agatha Bednarczuk/Eduarda "Duda" Lisboa, Brazil (4) vs. Chantal Laboureur/Julia Sude, Germany (3)
16:00 - Pablo Herrera/Adrian Gavira, Spain (10) vs. Oleg Stoyanovskiy/Artem Yarzutkin, Russia (15)
17:00 - Louise Bawden/Taliqua Clancy, Australia (12) vs. Talita Antunes/Larissa Franca, Brazil (1)
18:00 - Nick Lucena/Phil Dalhausser, United States (4) vs. Michal Bryl/Grzegorz Fijalek, Poland (14)


Following the Moscow stop, the FIVB World Tour takes a week off before resuming play June 15-18 for a “three-star” $150,000 event in The Netherlands at The Hague.  Overall, there are 15 men’s and 19 women’s events on the $5.335-million FIVB World Tour schedule.
