World Tour revs up for new season

Lausanne, Switzerland, September 6, 2017 - Less than two weeks after the end of the 2017 Swatch Beach Volleyball FIVB World Tour Finals presented by Vodafone, a new season of World Tour action is set to begin.

And the first event in the new season is a men's-only tournament in Montpellier, France from September 7 to 9. The 1-star event will be the 368th men’s tournament since the beginning of the World Tour in 1987. And 332 women's tournaments have been played since 1992, with the next addition to that number coming in the form of the double-gender World Tour event in Qinzhou, China from October 12 to 15.

The 2017 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour concluded with the $800,000 finals in Hamburg last month with victories for Germans Laura Ludwig/Kira Walkenhorst and Americans Phil Dalhausser/Nick Lucena. Ludwig and Dalhausser subsequently reaped Most Outstanding Player honours in voting by players, coaches, referees and FIVB officials for the 2017 World Tour.

Ludwig joined the United States' Dalhausser (2013 and 2014) and Kerri Walsh Jennings (2012, 2013 and 2014), and Brazilians Juliana Felisberta (2009, 2010 and 2011) and Bruno Oscar Schmidt (2015 and 2016) as the only players to be named the Most Outstanding Player in consecutive seasons since the award was initiated in 2005.

The tour has enjoyed a breath-taking ride over the past 30 years, from the early days of the first international FIVB-sanctioned beach volleyball tournament in 1987 on Ipanema Beach in Brazil to the recently completed Swatch Beach Volleyball World Tour Finals in Hamburg, Germany.

And with a new season fans can expect to get to know new faces as the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour revs up for more excitement. Be sure to follow all the action on fivb.com and on the FIVB's pages on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube.
