Langkawi, Malaysia, November 1, 2018 - For the third-straight weekend, the 2018/2019 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour remains in Asia as Malaysia returns to the international calendar with a men's and women's event in Langkawi from April 11 to 14.
The string of Asian events begins with a women's only event in Cambodia from April 4 to 7 at Battambang followed by a double-gender tournament from April 8 to 11 in Thailand at Satun.
The Langkawi Open marks the second-straight season for international beach volleyball competition in Malaysia as pairs from Austria and Russia topped the podium at the inaugural event at the end of April 2018.
Simon Fruhbauer/Jorg Wutzl of Austria captured the 2018 Langkawi Open men's gold medal with a win over Petr Bakhnar/Taras Myskiv of Russia in the finals. Thailand's Nuttanon/Inkiew Sedtawat Padsawud placed third.
In the 2018 Langkawi women's competition, Russians Ksenia Dabizha/Daria Mastikova defeated Katja Stam/Julia Wouters of the Netherlands for the title while Phoebe Bell/Jessyka Ngauamo of Australia placed third.
The best finishes by Malaysian teams were 13ths in both the men's and women's competition.
