Lausanne, Switzerland, August 2, 2017 - After an event in Portugal and with the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships Vienna 2017 presented by A1 underway in Austria, the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) has now held 19 events on the 2017 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour calendar.
Last week, the FIVB calendar included the men’s FIVB Espinho 2-Star tournament in Portugal and the start of the 2017 FIVB World Championships in Vienna. There have now been 13 men’s events and 17 women’s tournaments completed so far on the 2017 FIVB World Tour.

Winning the men’s gold medal last week at the FIVB Espinho tournament with a 5-0 match record was Brazil’s 13th-seeded Vitor Felipe/George Wanderley who stopped Qatar’s seventh-seeded Julio Nascimento/Ahmed Tijan straight sets 2-0 (21-12, 21-13) in 47 minutes. It was the third career FIVB World Tour gold medal for Vitor and first for George and first for the Vitor/George tandem who have now played in just six FIVB World Tour events as a team. It was the second silver medal in 13 FIVB World Tour events for Qatar’s Nascimento/Tijan.

Playing in their fifth FIVB World Tour event, it was the first bronze medal and for Norway’s Berntsen/Mol team.
In the FIVB Espinho men’s semifinals, Brazil’s Vitor/George advanced to the gold medal match by defeating Norway’s Berntsen/Mol in three sets, 2-1 (20-22, 21-19, 19-17) in 55 minutes and Qatar’s Nascimento/Tijan advanced by stopping Norway’s Solhaug/Sorum in two sets, 2-0 (21-18, 23-21) in 34 minutes.
Brazil’s Vitor Felipe was selected as the men’s Most Outstanding Player of the FIVB Espinho tournament.

USA’s Phil Dalhausser/Nick Lucena tandem continues to lead this week’s FIVB World Rankings with 3,920 points, second is Brazil’s Saymon Barbosa/Alvaro Filho with 3,560 points, third is Poland’s Piotr Kantor/Bartosz Losiak with 3,528 points, fourth is Italy’s Daniele Lupo/Paolo Nicolia with 3,120 points and fifth is Russia’s Viacheslav Krasilnikov/Nikita Liamin with 3,100 points.
Sixth is Brazil’s Olympic champions Alison Cerutti/Bruno Oscar Schmidt with 2,876 points, tied for seventh with 2,640 points each are Brazil’s Gustavo ‘Guto’ Carvalhaes/Pedro Solberg and Spain’s Adrian Gavira/Pablo Herrera, ninth is Russia’s Oleg Stoyanovskiy/Artem Yarzutkin with 2,612 points, 10th is Brazil’s Evandro Goncalves/Andre Loyola with 2,596 points, 11th is Latvia’s Aleksandrs Samoilovs/Janis Smedins with 2,440 points and 12th is Canada’s Sam Pedlow/Sam Schachter with 2,420 points.

In the 2017 FIVB World Tour men’s earnings after 13 events and the first three days of the FIVB World Championships (Sunday, July 30), USA’s Phil Dalhausser/Nick Lucena duo remains on top of the money list with $87,400 in six events with two gold medals. Second is Brazil’s Saymon Barbosa/Alvaro Filho with $81,400 in eight events with one gold medal, third is Poland’s Piotr Kantor/Bartosz Losiak with $78,400 in eight events, fourth is Italy’s Daniele Lupo/Paolo Nicolai with $75,900 in eight events and fifth this week is Brazil’s Alison Cerutti/Bruno Oscar Schmidt with $70,400 in seven events with one gold medal.

Brazil’s Talita Antunes/Larissa Franca duo continues at the top of the current women’s FIVB World Rankings with 5,080 points, second is Germany’s Chantal Laboureur/Julia Sude with 4,200 points, third is Brazil’s Agatha Bednarczuk/Eduarda ‘Duda’ Lisboa with 3,700 points, fourth is Canada’s Melissa Humana-Parades/Sarah Pavan with 3,680 points and fifth is Czech Republic’s Barbora Hermannova/Marketa Slukova with 3,340 points.
