Vienna, Austria, August 6, 2017 - For the second-straight day, a new beach volleyball world champion will be crowned after pairs from Austria and Brazil won semifinal matches here Sunday morning at the 2017 FIVB World Championships presented by A1.
Fourth-seeded Evandro Goncalves and Andre Loyola of Brazil will be challenged by the 12th-seeded Clemens Doppler and Alexander Horst of Austria in the gold medal match where the winning team will share the $60,000 first-place prize, but more importantly, the World Championship trophy.
With both teams seeking the first gold medal of their partnership, Evandro and Loyola advanced to the finals with a 2-0 (21-15, 21-13) win in 42 minutes over 45th-seeded Maarten van Garderen and Christiaan Varenhorst of the Netherlands. Doppler and Horst gained their spot in the finals with a 2-0 (22-20, 21-19) win in 49 minutes over sixth-seeded Viacheslav Krasilnikov and Nikita Liamin of Russia.
