Guto & Solberg win Brazilian country quota match

 
Gstaad, Switzerland, July 3, 2017 - A day after winning a FIVB World Tour gold medal match at a seaside resort in Croatia, Gustavo "Guto" Carvalhaes and Pedro Solberg were back playing in a Swiss Alps village as the pair won the Brazilian country quota match here Monday at the Gstaad Major.


For the second-straight Monday, Guto and Solberg defeated compatriots Vitor Felipe / George Wanderley in a country quota playoff match by posting a 2-1 (21-16, 14-21, 15-12) win in 52 minutes over their Brazilian rivals.  With the win, Guto and Solberg will be the No. 1-seeded team in Tuesday’s 24-team men’s qualifier.

Eight pairs will advance from Tuesday’s qualifier in the US$600,000 Gstaad Major to Wednesday’s 32-team Main Draw.  The 18th annual FIVB World Tour event in the Swiss Alps village concludes Sunday when the winning team shares the $40,000 first-place prize
