Italy vs. Russia & Netherlands vs. Sweden for YOG gold medals

 
Buenos Aires, Argentina, October 16, 2018 - Teams from Italy, the Netherlands, Russia and Sweden will be competing for the gold medals at the Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympic Games after beach volleyball pairs from the European countries posted semifinal wins here Tuesday.


It will be fifth-seeded Claudia Scampoli/Nicol Bertozzi of Italy challenging second-seeded and reigning FIVB under-19 world champions Maria Voronina/Mariia Bocharova of Russia for the women's gold medal Wednesday morning after the two teams defeated pairs from the United States and Norway, respectively, in Tuesday morning's semi-finals.

In Wednesday's afternoon's men's medal matches, ninth-seeded Yorick de Groot/Matthew Immers of the Netherlands confront third-seeded David Ahman/Jonatan Hellvig of Sweden for the YOG gold after the two tandems defeated duos from Argentina and Hungary in Tuesday afternoon's semifinal matches. 
In Wednesday's bronze medal matches, 16th-seeded Devon Newberry/Lindsey Sparks of the United States will play 14th-seeded Emilie Olimstad/Frida Berntsen of Norway in the morning for the third spot on the women's podium while top-seeded Bautista Amieva/Mauro Zelayeta of Argentina meets 23rd-seeded Bence Streli/Artur Hajos of Hungary in the afternoon for the men's No. 3 placement.
