Tuan Chau, Vietnam, May 11, 2018 - Japan occupy the medals round of the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour one-star Tuan Chau HaLong Open 2018, advancing all three of their teams to the semifinals, with Israel's Sofia Starikov / Noy Chorin making up the numbers.
Top seeds Sayaka Mizoe / Suzuka Hashimoto edged Denmark's Maria Elisabeth Tyndeskov / Line Trans Hansen 2-0 (21-17, 25-23) in the quarterfinals, while second-seeded Yui Nagata / Minori Kumada enjoyed a comfortable evening in overwhelming the other Danish side of Helle Sondergard / Simone Marie Okholm Hansen 2-0 (21-10, 21-11).

The third Japanese side, 12th-seeded Yukako Suzuki / Kaho Sakaguchi were taken all the way by Vietnam Wild Card Thi Thanh Tram Nguyen / Nguyen Thi Mai, but eventually knocked out the home side 2-1 (21-19, 18-21, 15-6).
But No. 5 seeds Starikov / Chorin eliminated third-seeded Sara Olivova / Karolina Rehackova of the Czech Republic 2-0 (21-13, 21-16) in the only upset of the quarterfinals.
