Maria Clara Salgado makes comeback in Curitiba

Lausanne, Switzerland, November 18, 2016 - With Brazil's top teams in action in Curitiba at the fourth stop on the Brazilian Tour, one player is back after being sidelined for over 10 months to give birth to a baby boy called Joaquim.

His mother, Maria Clara Salgado is competing in the Curitiba tournament of the Brazilian Tour this week with new partner Rachel Nunes.

Maria Clara has travelled to Curitiba with her baby boy, following in the steps of a family tradition.

“My mother [Isabel] was a player and I was raised this way,” she said. “I loved to travel with my mother and my brothers. I am sure Joaquim will enjoy it too. He will be in touch with different cultures very early and will learn a lot from that alongside his cousin Salvador, who is just a month older than him. He is my lucky charm, I am very glad to have him here.”

The tournament marks a fresh start for Maria Clara after ending a 12-year partnership with Carolina, her sister. The separation between Maria Clara and Carolina also means their mother, Isabel, is no longer their coach.

“She would not be comfortable to be helping one of her daughters against the other. This way, she is free to support both of us,” she said.
