Pattaya welcomes new Women’s Challenger event

Lausanne, Switzerland, August 21, 2014 - The International Volleyball Federation’s schedule will feature a new event in 2014, when the $50,000 FIVB Beach Volleyball Women’s Challenger in Pattaya, Thailand, takes place from November 5-9.

The event means beach volleyball in Thailand is back on the FIVB calendar, following successful Open tournaments in Phuket and Bangsaen in previous years. The Challenger is a key part of a long term agreement which has seen the promoter confirmed for four years for a Women’s Open.

The Qualification Tournament, which will be completed on November 5, will see 16 women’s teams compete for four places in the Main Draw, where they will join 24 teams from November 6-9.

Pattaya, which is a popular beach resort about 100 kilometres southeast of Bangkok, on the Bay of Bangkok, will welcome women’s pairs from around the world. Strong participation levels could mean that the event is staged again in 2015 and beyond.

Tentative national federation lists of teams are to be submitted 30 days before the event and the Confirmed Entry Lists will be issued 14 days before the beginning of the competition

Challenger and Satellite events are part of a successful FIVB and Confederations development programme which aims to provide countries with the opportunity to promote an international event within a limited budget.
