Ricardo set for Fort Lauderdale bow

Lausanne, Switzerland, February 3, 2017 – Throughout his career Ricardo Santos has pretty much done it and seen it all; Athens 2004 Olympic champion, 2003 FIVB world champion and winner of numerous FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour events.

During that time the 42-year-old Brazilian has played in countless cities around the world, but next week he will be adding a new one to that list when he competes at the Fort Lauderdale Major Series.

The Florida city is hosting the opening event of the 2017 World Tour with a tournament that runs from February 7 to 12 and Ricardo will be there alongside his latest partner Harley Marques after having received a wildcard place.

“I am thrilled that we were awarded the wildcard,” Ricardo told swatchmajorseries.com. “I have never played in Fort Lauderdale before so this tournament is very special to me. At my age, I know I don’t have many seasons ahead of me, so I try to enjoy each of them.”

It will be the second time that Ricardo and Harley have played an FIVB tournament together and they have played together on one occasion on the Brazil Tour in 2016.

At 41-years-old Harley is only a year younger than Ricardo, but it means that they are highly experienced and that there are few situations that they haven’t faced during their careers.

"I am very pleased to have Harley on my side,” Ricardo added. “He’s a very passionate player and a two-time most valuable player of the World Tour.

“We’ve played together a few times before and we used to train together in Joao Pessoa, so we know each other very well. I’m really confident that we can achieve a good result.”
