Juliana & Carol Horta aim for two in a row at Nantong Open

 
Nantong, China, June 22, 2017 – Brazil’s Juliana Felisberta Da Silva and Carolina Horta Maximo aim for their second victory in a row at the 2017 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Nantong Open.

Juliana/Carol Horta enter Nantong after claiming victory in Monaco, one week previously at the FIVB one-star event. Veteran Juliana won the 2011 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships and London 2012 Olympic bronze with Larissa Franca and teams up with Carol Horta for only their second event together.

The FIVB World Tour arrives in Nantong for the first time and the Nantong Open is the second stop on China’s Silk Tour following the Tangshan Open one week earlier. Lithuania’s Ieva Dumbauskaite and Monika Povilaityte earned their first ever FIVB World Tour medal with bronze in Tangshan and will be thirsty for more at the Nantong event.

China’s Shuhui Wen and Xinyi Xia also won their first ever FIVB World Tour medal in Tangshan, claiming silver after an impressive run which included defeating China’s strongest team Wang Fan and Yuan Yue. China fields a total of eight teams in Nantong, notably Xinxin Wang and 2008 Beijing Olympic Games bronze medallist, Chen Xue.

Megumi Murakami and Miki Ishii from Japan are top seeds in Nantong playing in their fifth FIVB World Tour event of the year. Their best results of 2017 were ninth in both the Langkawi one-star event and at the Tangshan Open.

Vanuatu’s Loti Joe and Linline Matauatu and Thailand’s Rumpaipruet Numwong and Khanittha Hongpak also join Nantong directly from the Tangshan Open. Both teams were defeated in the quarterfinals in Tangshan.

The Nantong Open is a single gender women’s two-star tournament from June 23 – 25. Following Nantong, China will also host the FIVB U-21 Beach Volleyball World Championships in Nanjing on June 13-18. The double-gender FIVB Qinzhou 3-star Open from October 11-15 will be part of the 2018 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour.
