Sydney, Australia, March 18, 2017 - Teams in Manly Beach weathered the challenge of tough competition and the elements as the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour in Sydney completed the quarterfinals on Saturday.
Japan’s Sayaka Mizoe/Suzuka Hashimoto were first to play on Saturday with a 2-1 (13-21, 21-15, 15-7) victory against Austria’s Nadine and Teresa Strauss.
Later, the Japanese pair succumbed in the tie-break (16-21, 21-17, 18-16) during the quarterfinals against Germany’s Kim Behrens and Anni Schumacher.
USA’s Kimberly Dicello/Emily Stockman progressed to the quarterfinals by beating Australia’s Katie Bartoli/Christine Jenkins (21-11, 21-14).
Canadian duo Julie Gordon and Camille Saxton later defeated Americans Dicello/Stockman in straight sets (21-16, 23-21) to make it to the Final Four.
Sunday’s action will see two first-time matchups in the semifinals,
to be streamed live on the FIVB YouTube Channel.
All hopes are pinned on better weather, but everyone will be ready, at any rate.
