Monaco expecting top-class action on Larvotto Beach

Lausanne, Switzerland, June 12, 2017 – With less than a week to go Monaco is counting down the days until it hosts the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour one-star event on June 17 and 18.

It is the first time that the Principality has hosted a World Tour and 16 of the world’s best women’s teams will be competing for the $10,000 prize and the Prince’s Cup, named after head of state Prince Albert II, who chairs the Monegasque Volleyball Federation.

Teams from Germany, Denmark, Scotland, France, Greece, Israel, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Serbia and Switzerland, Brazil and USA are all expected to compete over the two days of competition.

Over 20 matches per gender will take place at Larvotto Beach with courts that overlook the Mediterranean Sea.

The 2017 FIVB World Tour schedule lists three other women’s only events besides Monaco, the first in Sydney, Australia (March 17-19), the second in Daegu, Korea (July 14-16) and the last in Ulsan, Korea (July 20-22).

The five-star structure instituted starting with the 2017 FIVB World Tour is one of the many steps taken by the FIVB to modernize and streamline its competitions in a golden period for beach volleyball on the heels of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and on the road to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
